BIRTHDAY PARTY AT MISE EN PLACE // TAMPA EVENT PHOTOGRAPHER

It was a pleasure meeting the very photogenic Scott and Kathy for her 50th birthday celebration at Mise en Place. The dinner party was an intimate gathering of their closest family and friends in a very sophisticated, historic setting. The camera just loves Kathy; she has been blessed with beauty, grace and a genuine warmth that fills the room.

I shot the event using two Nikon Df‘s attached to a customized Water Buffalo Burgundy Money Maker Harness (no D-rings) and my favorite prime lenses; 35mm f/1.4G and 85mm f/1.8G. I also used the 70-200mm f/2.8 for the toasts and dinner hour, as well as a 24-70mm f/2.8 at the wide end for a few interior shots. While I did manage some natural light shots, the venue posed some low light challenges that were nicely resolved with off-camera flash and video lighting for most of the frames. I used a Yongnuo YN-300 video light for all the outside portraits, including the one of Scott & Kathy above. Inside, I was bouncing my SB-910 on camera a lot and also using the SB-900 off-camera, triggered by the Pocket Wizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 system. Focusing was not an issue for the Df in low light with the AF Assist Beam of the SB-910 working overtime. It nailed focus every time. Having the video light was nice for focusing in low light as well. The more I use video lights, the more I like them.
