MY FAVORITE PHOTOS of 2014

This is my first “favorite frames” post. I had over 80 commercial photography gigs this year, as well as images from instructing FMoPA workshops, photo adventures with friends, personal projects and so on. There were so many more photos I wanted to include, but I’m very happy with how the final collection turned out.

I made some great industry connections this year; working with the Tampa Bay Lighting‘s Community Heroes program, Florida Medical Association (FMA), SSPMedia, DOW Electronics, Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, USBG Tampa, Le Meridien Tampa, Public Imagery, and London Philips. I also owe a very special thank you to my client, C1 Bank for the opportunities they’ve given me in 2014 and over the past few years. They’ve kept me very busy and are such a pleasure to work with. In addition, I had some awesome bookings with private clients for weddings, birthdays, art shows, holiday photos and other great moments that were so fun to shoot.

Probably the most personally rewarding accomplishment for me in 2014 has been instructing workshops at the Florida Museum of Photographic Arts in Tampa. I’ve met so many talented, aspiring artists/Photographers and to be a part of their journey in photography is the best feeling. A very big thank you to FMoPA Director, Zora Carrier and Communications Manager, Natalie Sparkman for everything they’ve done at the museum. None of it would be possible without them.

I’ve also had great support this year from three amazing Photographers; Dave Paek, Jeff Katherine and Jason Mize. These guys are the best of the best in fine-art wedding photography and I am so thankful for the time they’ve given me. Anyone who knows photography understands that a good wedding Photographer is like a Navy Seal and all the rest of us are just foot-soldiers! They work in the most challenging conditions to create art on the fly…no excuses. So, learning all that I can from them has been the best education I could ask for. I might have included some shots of them in action below!

The photos I chose for my look-back on 2014 all have a fine-art feel, or at least an interesting quality to them from my perspective. I felt that these frames could stand on their own without the help of a series. There are also some fun ones in there as well. I’ve worked a lot with the quality of light in my photos to really give the images something dynamic. I also dabbled in a few new techniques; Light Composites, Prisiming and a few Brenizer Method‘s. Most importantly though, I focused a lot on story-telling and making each frame count. I thought a lot about my point-of-view as a Photographer this year.
